Target saugeye with the same tactics used for walleye and sauger: jigging, trolling, and vertical presentations work best. Spring and fall are prime times when fish are shallow or actively feeding;
For general saugeye work use a medium-light to medium-action spinning rod about 6'6" to 7'6" for jigging and casting, or a medium-action baitcast rod for heavier trolling. Line choices: 6–12 lb mono
